Welsh Government seaside towns

Project

Evaluation of the local impact of regeneration activities in seaside towns within the designated Strategic Regeneration Areas (SRA) in Wales.

Client

Welsh Government

In partnership with Wavehill Consulting, we were appointed by the Regeneration Division of the Welsh Government to evaluate the local impact of regeneration activities in seaside towns within the designated Regeneration Areas (RA).

Our work included

The work focused on providing clear, evidence-based findings to:

  • Determine the effectiveness of the impact of the investment in seaside towns;
  • Consider the extent to which the strategic, partnership approach employed in the Regeneration Areas adds value to seaside town regeneration
  • Suggest priorities that could be embedded within future regeneration policy for seaside towns.

Outcome

The report made a number of recommendations and contributed to the evidence base for the regeneration policy review undertaken by the Welsh Government. Vibrant and Viable Places, the new regeneration framework for Wales launched in March 2013, has coastal communities as a specific priority focus.
